Temple
Ramanathaswamy Temple
One of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines in India and a Char Dham pilgrimage site, this awe-inspiring temple is renowned for having the longest temple corridor in the world, lined with intricately carved stone pillars. Pilgrims take a ritual bath in all 22 sacred wells (theerthams) within the complex before offering prayers to Lord Shiva.
Theertham
Agni Theertham
The only theertham located outside the main temple, Agni Theertham is a sacred bathing spot directly on the Bay of Bengal shore, right beside the temple's eastern face. Pilgrims take a ritual sea dip here before entering the temple. The sight of devotees wading into the ocean at sunrise, with the sound of temple bells in the background, is truly unforgettable.
Dhanushkodi Beach
At the southern tip of the island, Dhanushkodi is a hauntingly beautiful place where the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean meet. A catastrophic cyclone in 1964 turned the town into a ghost settlement, and today its evocative ruins draw pilgrims and travellers alike. This is also the closest viewpoint to the legendary Ram Setu (Adam's Bridge).
Pamban Bridge
India's first sea bridge and one of the country's greatest engineering landmarks, the Pamban Rail Bridge stretches 2.3 km across the Palk Strait, connecting Rameswaram island to the mainland. The view from the new cable-stayed road bridge running alongside it is spectacular — especially at dusk, with the shimmering waters turning golden in the light.
Gandhamadhana Parvatham
The highest natural point on the island, this revered hillock is believed to bear the sacred footprints of Lord Rama, made when he surveyed the sea before building the bridge to Lanka. A two-storey mandapam at the summit offers a sweeping panoramic view of the entire island and its surrounding ocean — a perfect spot for photographs and quiet reflection.

Rameswaram is the birthplace of India's beloved "Missile Man" and former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. The memorial and house-museum near the beach trace his extraordinary journey from a humble island home to the highest office in the land, and the scientific legacy he built for India. A deeply moving stop, especially for families with children.

Pack a Theertham Bag
Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a polythene cover for your phone and valuables. The 22 theertham baths inside the temple corridors and the Agni Theertham sea dip will leave you fully drenched — being prepared makes the ritual smooth and enjoyable.
Book a Vehicle for Dhanushkodi
The last 8 km to the tip of Dhanushkodi is only accessible by beach jeep — regular cars cannot manage the sandy terrain. Book your jeep early (by 7:00 AM) as spots fill fast. Our front desk can help you arrange one the evening before.
